A Tropical Fundraiser Supporting Two Great Causes

Just when winter feels darkest and coldest, a warm,
humid escape is blooming in East Haddam.

East Haddam Land Trust and the River Valley Personal Care
Products Project invite the community to “January Thaw,”
a two-night tropical fundraiser inside the lush,
glowing greenhouse at Ballek’s Garden Center,
Maple Avenue, East Haddam..

Step out of snow boots and into a jungle oasis.
Leave behind icy sidewalks and frosted windshields
to enter a world of warm air, fragrant plants,
and the gentle hiss of greenhouse humidity.
It’s a midwinter vacation—no passport required.

Funds raised during the two nights of January Thaw
will support local land conservation through
East Haddam Land Trust and
access to basic hygiene needs through the
River Valley Personal Care Products Project.
Together, these organizations work to protect
both the natural and human resources
that make East Haddam a strong, healthy place to live.

The evenings promise a relaxed, festive atmosphere
perfect for shaking off winter cabin fever.

Stroll among tropical plants, reconnect with neighbors, and enjoy the unique experience of being surrounded by summer in the heart of January. Botanical cocktails, craft beer, natural wines, and savory and sweet bites will be provided.

An added feature to this event is a pie raffle. We seek donations of homemade sweet or savory pies to be raffled. Please contact June Plecan at 860-917-4048 for more information. June will supply the pie tins and the pie boxes to those willing to help by donating a homemade pie.

Whether you come for the warmth, the cause, or the joy of a true winter escape, January Thaw promises to be one of the most refreshing nights of the season.

Mark your calendars, invite your friends, and come warm up for a wonderful cause.
Winter may be long—but together, we know how to bring the heat.
