Snell-Talbot Preserve

The 12.08-acre Snell-Talbot Preserve was donated to East Haddam Land Trust by Elsie T. Snell in May 2022.

The Snell-Talbot Preserve links with the Land Trust's Bloch Preserve which, in turn, links to Monica's Woods. These three contingent preserves consist of 69+ acres. Visitors interested in a longer hike may continue from Monica's Woods into the Town of East Haddam's Robbie Road Preserve (click on the trail map link to open the map of the trails running through all four preserves).

The Snell-Talbot Preserve is also part of the 99-acre Moodus Forest. This preserve encompasses the Town of East Haddam's Robbie Road Preserve, and East Haddam Land Trust's Monica's Woods, Bloch Preserve, and the Snell-Talbot Preserve. The Moodus Forest is jointly managed by East Haddam Land Trust and the East Haddam Conservation Commission.

The best parking for The Moodus Forest preserves is along Robbie Road. Currently, there is limited roadside parking for the Snell-Talbot Preserve along EH Colchester Turnpike between the end of the guard rails and Southwinds Road. Future parking is planned off of East Haddam-Colchester Turnpike at the Snell-Talbot Preserve.

A portion of the costs necessary to open this preserve for public access (legal, survey, trail clearing, and future parking) was covered by a generous donation from the Rockfall Foundation 2022 Annual Environmental Grant program.
